Am at my wits end, my little boy has been hard work since the get go, constantly being sick and not feeding well. We got given infant gaviscon for reflux and this helped. He stopped eating, refusing after an ounce or so. They think he has milk intolerence, so we have tried several different milks. He is on neocate which again seemed to help for a bit but then we went back to same issues of refusing to eat anymore than 1-2 ounces.
He cries a lot and seems so unsettled.
Under dietician and paediatric care and they gave us ranitidin, this again seemed to help but again and he was drinking more and put on a little weight but now back to square one.
so fed up and feel down all the time and on top of this he will not sleep well at night, waking several times x x HELP!!

We had a similar thing with our baby - he's now three. At four months the only way to get him to have more than about half an ounce was to wait until he went to sleep and then stick a bottle in his mouth which he would drink by instinct. It was a nightmare, the worst time of my life. We went through all the different formulas and medicines. In the end a combination of Neocate and Omeproxole worked but it can take up to six weeks for all the cows milk to leave their body, and then longer for them to realise that feeding isn't causing them pain any more. I would stick to the Neocate, I don't think chopping and changing all the time helps - and give it more time. And be assertive with the doctors, I found it is amazing how little they actually seem to know sometimes! Good luck, it WILL get better.

Have been on Neocate for 1 1/2 months now. Been on to Dietician and Doctor today and have up the dosage on ranitidine so hopefully that will help! But I can honestly say I have never been so stressed and close to tears x x
when did things start improving with you?

Not until about five and a half months I think - about 8 weeks after we started the Neocate. By that point I was convinced it would never get any better and was on anti-depressants! Have your doctor or dietician talked about weaning early? That was the other thing we did - using something called Neocate Spoon rather than baby rice - and our son took to that much better than drinking milk - (although he later turned into a really fussy eater which may or may not be connected!). Good luck, I am now pregnant with number 2 and worried that it is going to have the same problems. I would know to get help much quicker next time though, and also know that it wasn't going to last forever.

Thank you got an appointment with the Dietician in few weeks to discuss weaning. Think I am having a meltdown myself, so up and down x x good to know things get better, we never had this problem with now 4 year old daughter x x
