How many bottles at 5 months?

Hi ladies,

My beautiful lo is coming up for 5 months and is bottle fed. At the moment she has 5 bottles/day (around 200ml each time, every 3-4 hours in the day, and sleeps through the night). I'm thinking about cutting down to 4 bottles/day (say 250ml every 4-5 hours) to get her ready for weaning, but not sure if it's still too soon. Any thoughts?

Also, has anyone heard of giving goat's milk to babies? I've heard a few people say they think it's better than formula for older babies, but the official advice seems to be that it's a no no. Has anyone tried it for their little one?

Thanks for any thoughts!

I wouldn't cut milk unless they showed signs of wanting less. I would also wait until starting solids and then let them drop the milk intake them self. My 2 had 5 bottles until 8 months or so and then dropped to 4 when they stopped the night feed. Goats milk formula isn't licensed in the UK so you would find it hard to get hold of so I would just stick to what you currently use

Hi, this may not be right but it's working for us so I thought I'd share with you what I'm doing.

My dd is the same age, not suggesting you wean early but we have because out doctor told us to.And this approach may work for you when the time comes. Anyway we give dd 6oz of milk in the morning About 7am. Mid morning she'll have aptamil porridge or baby rice then 4oz of milk. At 5pm we give her a bit of fruit purée then another 4oz of milk then 6oz before we go to bed and she sleeps through.

I'm interested in the other answers you get about goats milk. I'm ff and not by choice and would like to get dd off formula as soon as I can.

the OP is talking about goats milk formula not straight goats milk (I hope!). Straight Cows milk/goats milk, etc are not suitable until your lo is age 1 as they dont have enough fat, vitamins, iron in them for growing babies

from googling you can now get goats milk formula but you may find it harder to get hold of than cows milk based formula and it is more expensive
