tips - introducing ff to ebf 3mth old

Dd has been ebf since birth and is now 3mths. Need to introduce bottle of formula asap as she starts mornings at nursery in April.
Any hints/tips? Would like to continue bf outside of nursery times.

I had to introduce formula to my 3 month old because of weight issues.

Oh also I use ready mixed aptimil and give it room temperature so it's really easy. I also think it being room temperature encourages the breastfeeding as well - as it's nicer because it's warm. This might be rubbish but it's a thought!

We are currently introducing a bottle to ds (11 weeks). I have started giving him small amounts of expressed milk 2 oz, don't expect her to necessarily down loads to start with . We are using a Mam bottle which is self sterilising so handy for infrequent bottles but you may need to try a few before she takes to one. Stick with a slow flow teat if you want to continue with bf.

Good tip JADS How ever, we can't seem to find a slow enough flow for a tomee tipee which is what we have. Teat 1 still lets milk flow quite quickly and she just splutters and looks confused! Also have Mendela bottle but haven't tried that yet.

There is a fancy new bottle made by Haberman (it is green) which mimics bf in that the baby needs to make quite an effort to get the milk out. Might work for you?

The Dr Brown bottles were recommended to us by a lot of people and they have been great, definitely the most 'slow flow' bottles we tried.

Tommee Tippee back to nature worked for us and lots of other people we know. You might be fine from the get go (we were), but if not, try the milk a bit warmer, try other brands (I bought the little premade cartons to try), try other bottles if need be.

We liked Hipp milk, partly because DD's poos most resembled BF poos when she had it, and partly because the container is in two individually sealed foil packages. So you can buy it for a baby having one or two bottles a day, without having to throw half of it away because it's been open four weeks.
