Finished breastfeeding for good- Hurrah!

DD is now six and a half months old and I have finally given up breastfeeding. I did it because I wanted to give her the best possible start but I won't miss it one little bit. Specifically I won't miss

  • Hauling my breasts in and out of ridiculously large bras at every opportunity

  • Hauling myself out of bed in the early hours while my non breastfeeding dh slept on

  • Feeling like a human dummy when my dd couldn't sleep

It seems that so many people on these threads love breastfeeding. I had no problems with it - no cracked nipples, mastitis or even engorgement - so I was very lucky but I really grew to hate it. Just wanted to share my joy that it's over. Did anyone else feel similar relief?

I'm with you here, ragtaggle. I didnt quite get to the stage that I hated it, but I really wanted my body (specifically my boobs) back to myself. I finally stopped about 3 wks ago when dd was 7 and a half mths and feel brilliant ! Got sexy pre-pregnancy bras out of attic last week (about 12 bras), hung them in a bag over the end of the bed ready for a "trying on" session, went to get them for said session on Sunday and dh had lobbed the lot into the bin thinking it was rubbish !!!! I went BALLISTIC, and he turned a whiter shade of pale when i informed him exactly how much bras cost these days and that if he expected me to replace all of them then he was up a gum tree ... am planning to decimate figleaves.com ...

LOL ScotsBird. I'm not quite in my old bras yet - have been on massive diet as I put on four stone during pregnancy. Two and a half came off almost immediately but six months on I'm still trying to shift the last stone. And when I do those Agent Provacateur bits of flimsy material are coming out of the closet. I think your dh needs to buy you some replacement lingerie ASAP

Agreed - in fact while dd was at childminder this morning i made a start in Debenhams. The problem now, however is that they arent exactly the same shape that they used to be so I came away with a Wonderbra (never needed one before!!) which was in the sale anyway - think I will go down your route and pay a visit to Agent Provocateur. This you will also find the weight drops off now that you have stopped bf - it did with me. Good luck with that extra stone !!

I see this is a really old thread but I was looking for just the topic. DS is 5 months and I have given up breastfeeding too. I am so happy! Like Ragtaggle I never had any complications but I never enjoyed it. I blame big boobs / flat nipples. I actually ended up expressing most of it so that was doing my head in. I have now switched to formula, some solids and one drink of frozen EBM per day.
I had a few painful days when I was trying to express as little as possible but today is the first day that I will not have pumped at all! I'm going to pour myself some wine now :)

Well I say good for you for doing it anyway!
Sometimes I find it a bit of a bore, but then everything can be a bit of a bore sometimes can't it!?
Just because one is committed to b/feeding doesn't mean one has to be completely enthused by it!!
Find a glass of wine does wonders for my patience when breastfeeding. Was never angelic enough to stop that! Grin

Have decided to keep going till Spring - hopefully to help ds shake off any colds/bugs over the winter. That'll be about a year by then - golly - I only intended to do 6 months!
