Sunburnt looking boob?

Breastfeeding two week old baby and it's going well I think. Two days ago my boobs went MASSIVE and hard. This followed a night of near constant feeding. Both boobs looked red all over.

I fed her on demand yesterday which was every two hours or so. This seems to have relieved the pressure but one boob is still half red - like sunburn.

I can't feel any kind of lump (blocked duct?) and I don't feel ill (mastitis?) she's still feeding from that side but she's fussing with it and clearly prefers the other side today.

The midwife was supposed to be visiting today but didn't show up so I will go to the walk in clinic tomorrow.

Does this sound like anything you've had before and if so what should I be doing?

Definitely sounds like mastitis to me. I'd start googling how to reduce it or you might well start feeling ill. You can definitely have a blocked duct without feeling flu-y.

Keep feeding, express a little if really uncomfortable, cabbage leaves in bra (seriously! ) and good idea to go to walk in tomorrow.

Agree with pp. Take neurofen and try to convince the baby to feed lots from that side. Have a hot shower or bath and hand express, and get it seen if still red in morning.

Just in case this is useful for anyone else - double mastitis and now on antibiotics.
