I have awful trapped wind - could I be passing this to my newborn through breast feeding?

Just that really. I've got crippling, scream-out-loud trapped wind which no amount of windeze/Lactulose is shifting. It's 8.41am and I've been breastfeeding my two week old baby since 11pm last night with literally not a wink if sleep. She just won't settle between feeds and wants feeding every 45mins for about 15-20 mins at a time. I can't cope with this. I am passing on my trapped wind? Please help, I'm desperately tired.

No, it's just not possible to somehow pass on trapped wind. Two week olds can unfortunately be like this. Some people might try and persuade you of old wives tales like you eating brassicas will give the baby wind, but these sorts of things are just not true.

If she's very unsettled maybe a trip to the GP to rule out things like silent reflux. Also, how is she doing with weight gain? If she's feeding a lot but not gaining weight well then it could be that she is tongue tied and not transferring milk effectively.

Is it definitely trapped wind you have? I thought I had trapped wind when it was actually gallstones.
If it is wind you can't pass it on through breast milk but could be worth talking to gp to rule out tongue tie / silent reflux / diary intolerence if baby is very unsettled.

Thank you for the advice. It could be gallstones actually. I had colestasis while pregnant so I will get it checked out.

I feel like I could have written this post!
DS is 4 weeks old now and my first. Some nights he woke every half an hour and I could be up with him for an hour at a time. I thought I was doing something wrong but I just kept going and he is so much better now and wakes 2 or 3 times in the night now which is amazing!
He also weighs 11lb 16oz now,he was 8lb 3oz at birth so I think he had a growth spurt. I was also told that it's good to just constantly feed sometimes as it boosts your supply of milk!
Also the trapped wind is horrific it makes me shout out in pain at times never had anything like it! And I have a pretty high pain threshold normally.

Thank you baby leopard. I had massively bad day as I'd had no sleep at all last night. She's barely fed today ( well, compared to the night!) now it's 20 to one in the morning and I'm on my third feed since 11.30. Another hell night begins.

But if it gets better at four weeks maybe I can hope.
