Help - nursing strike?

5 month old DD has a cold and is getting very distressed whenever I try to feed her. She's a big thumb sucker and is also crying as soon as her thumb goes in her mouth, so I assume that suckling is painful for her. Is this a nursing strike? What can I do? I finally managed to feed her tonight whilst she was asleep after 12 hours of refusal, but obviously I really want and need her to feed more often for her sake and mine. Any tips gratefully received! I managed to express earlier but it's hard to do regularly throughout the day as I also have a very active 3 year old DS.
