6 months old - do you change formula?

DS is currently on cow & gate first milk. HV told me when I first had him that he will only ever need this milk, all other milks are a marketing ploy.
Cow & hate do follow on milk - from 6 months. Complements weaning, different nutrients for his growing body etc etc.
Do I move him onto this when he reaches 6 months or does he stay on first milk til a year when we move onto cows milk?

We did but I know friends who never moved on until they could have cows milk, if it costs around the same then why not. Have you ever tasted it though? really sweet!

We didn't change formula. Follow on milk was invented as a marketing ploy as it's illegal to advertise first milk but not follow on milk. That doesn't mean it's any better or worse than first milk, as a PP says it isn't any more expensive, we just didn't bother changing. Completely up to you. We weaned completely on to cows milk as soon as she was 12 months and she seems to much prefer the taste of that to formula.

Like pp I stayed with the first milk and didn't bother changing. HV said not to because of marketing ploy etc. I'm using C&G too.

Ds is 12 months now and we've just made the change to cow's milk.

The 'complements weaning, different nutrients etc' is marketing guff. They only invented follow on milk so they could advertise. I'd stick with the first milk until 12 months and thrn move to cows milk.

Thanks everyone. Unanimous response. Will be sticking with first milk. Thanks again.

I did change around 9 months but only because it was cheaper and you can get offers on it - I also switched to a cheaper brand!

NotQuiteCockney · 20/01/2015 13:35

It's ok to switch if you want to, the follow-on milks can be cheaper, and they aren't generally harmful. If your baby gets constipated, do switch back though.
