removing baby from the breast...

anyone help with this...

dd is 4 weeks old and breastfeeding beautifully, but the thing is that she has a vice-like latch-on and there are times that I have to get her off (eg to deal with her older brother or answer the door or whatever). With ds I used to pop my pinky into his mouth to break the seal and he'd slip off...when I try this with dd she seems to clamp onto me and ends up tugging on the nipple. It really hurts.

Any suggestions for what I'm doing wrong? I don't want this to become an issue... I know it doesn't seem like a big deal, but it's getting to me...

Could try stoking the cheek that's not near the breast - this could cause her to turn her head the other way and in doing so (hoepfully) reduce her latch on the breast - iyswim - helping you to get your little finger in her mouth to break the suction. Good luck with this.
