Bottle to cup?

jessicaandrebeccasmummy · 12/10/2006 11:19

Jess is still having a bottle for milk at bedtime (she is 2.2) but she is biting through the teats. Gave her one of Becky's Dr Brown bottles last night and before she had finsihed the milk she had bitten through that teat too.

I want to switch her to a spouted cup for having her milk in, but not sure which one to get - is she going to hate me for taking the bottles away? Should i just go and buy new teats for her old bottles?

Sorry, so many questions, I just dont know what to do!!!

I have heard others suggest getting the LO to choose their own new cup

ds uses a spouted cup for water during the day but is still on bottles for milk for breakfast an dbed time (he's 14 months)

I tried various types. First the avent ones where you can buy the spout seperately and use with existing bottle (can also get a 'bit' with handles so you just adapt the bottle into a cup) but he didn't like that one. Now he uses the tommee tippee ones (i think!) they have soft spouts and you have to sort of bite and suck at the same time.

Does she use a beaker for daytime drinks?

if she drinks juice during the day make sure you buy a separate beaker just for milk. no matter how clean/sterile the juice beaker is, milk will taste funny from it.

we experimented with several beakers before we found one ds liked.

when dd stopped bottles (her choice) she point blank refused milk from a beaker. she went for months and months without milk. she now drinks it from a plastic glass (with no lid). we just gave her more cheese etc for those months.

Hi JARM how old is becky? we stopped all our DC's having bottles at 8-9mths and gave them anywayup cups. Could you switch both of them?

THANK YOU ALL

Right, so i need to take her shopping! Have tried milk in her usual cup and she has refused it - as you said she would!

Im sick of buying cups but if i can get her off bottles - woo hoo! Will see how she goes! Cant see her being a happy bunny tonight though!

how about giving her milk in a beaker during the day, when she is not tired.

and give her watered down milk at bedtime, for comfort, for a while longer. we started with about 1 oz water and most of the bottle with milk. gradually watered it more and more until it was mostly milk coloured water

that way there is less stress about giving up her bottle, and hating the milk beaker because of it.
