Lip Tie!

Hiya, i am convinced that my boy has a lip tie but was told it was normal by a paed consultant....I'm worried about potential problems in the future as the tie goes all the way down the gum and he also has a high palate. Any advice/info?? I know they like to pretend it doesn't exist in the uk...and i just don't want any problems for him bless him. He's also breastfed, his tongue was snipped yesterday but he still slips off...don't know if this will improve still or if it's due to his lip! Help! X

I had exactly this. DS with obvious grade iv lip tie. He was examined for tongue tie repeatedly and had it cut but I still had issues. I just carried on and he grew out of them but only after a number of months of pain. I kept meaning to post here to ask why the lip tie issue isn't recognised in this country.

Yes he does. I read that it can affect tooth alignment and cause decay which is worrying. Breastfeeding was ok from maybe 4 months.

I've BF 2 DC very easily with lip ties, one much more noticeable that the other. DC3 does have a small gap between her two front teeth but a dentist friend has said not to worry until adult teeth start coming in as sometimes it breaks on its own with the rough & tumble of childhood.
