Breastfeeding a biting baby!

DS is 9 months and I've been lucky to never have a problem with breastfeeding until now. His two front top and bottom teeth are coming through and he's taken to chomping down on my nipple. The teeth aren't even all the way out and already it's pretty painful! I've tried unlatching with a stern "no" but he thinks it's a game and smiles and coos winningly at me. Anyone experienced this, and if so how did you get baby to stop it? I really want to keep breastfeeding as we both love it.

I had two babies like this. The best advice I got was to do the following.

• When the baby bites, say 'No,' in a calm, firm way (not loads of expressiveness or shouting it out, as that makes it sound like a fun game)
• Immediately put the baby down on the floor for 3 seconds. Baby will cry, accept that!
• Pick baby up and carry on.

This cured DC1 on his second bite. DC3 was more persistent (and sometimes bit again out of crossness!, but it did the trick in the end. (DC2 was a sensible little chap and never bit.)

My ds tends to bite when actively teething. I follow all the advice of pp plus lansinoh and it soon passes. Sore few days though.

Mine did this - I did the stern no and put down for a few seconds. It didn't seem to teach him!! However, he did just suddenly stop so they don't do it forever. Hopefully yours will stop soon

I did the same as wolfbasher except I put baby on the floor and left the room for a few seconds then resumed feeding. It didn't take long for the message to get through. good luck!
