"it is important that, in preparation for and during breastfeeding, you eat a healthy, balanced diet"

or so it says on the "important information" on some HCP stuff Cow and Gate sent me to give out to parents.
but that's VERY misleading isn't it? it might imply that if you haven't eaten a healthy diet during pregnancy, you shouldn't bf? that formula would be better alternative?
it just seems a weird thing to have on a formula notice.
I am thinking of complaining - what do you think?

and anyway, choc with over 70% cocoa is good for you.

harpsichordcarrion · 04/10/2006 23:11

they are nice too.
would you like to join us in a discussion re the best bicsuits for bf, nappies?

nappiesLaGore · 04/10/2006 23:11

nappiesLaGore · 04/10/2006 23:12

hunkermunster · 04/10/2006 23:13

I'm very much enjoying So Organic digestives these days. Sounds a bit worthy but dipped in tea, they're bloody lovely.

harpsichordcarrion · 04/10/2006 23:13

what about you, hester? any personal favourites?

nappiesLaGore · 04/10/2006 23:14

i cant drink tea much, me. makes me all funny when the sugar and caffienr drops off.

and if you knew me in RL, esp pre-children, youd fall off your chair laughing at that one!

NG, I love your Halloween name. Splendid!

And yours, HC (But QV's all mine, ya know )

harpsichordcarrion · 04/10/2006 23:17

well thanks CF! it's just something I thought of spntaneously, you know, this evening.

I have been working on it all year then today I couldn't remember it. I was sweating I can tell you.

yes my Christmas one (which you remember without me needing to remind you, natch ) was rather good last year, leaving me with a difficult conudrum:
repeat, and be dull but worthy; OR
change and risk falling short.

gosh I think wordsmith may be right - I DO need to get a life...

nappiesLaGore · 04/10/2006 23:21

HC - LOL

oh bugger, now im thinking about a cristmas name...

nappiesLaGore · 04/10/2006 23:22

mis-spelling was a mistake, not a political statement, btw

welliemum · 04/10/2006 23:27

Yup, another attempt to undermine breastfeeding.

hc, sorry, haven't time at the mo to read all the thread but have you made the complaint yet? Can we help compose it? I love a good fight!

Incidentally, I would love to meet someone who ate a healthy balanced diet whilst breastfeeding - but I don't move in the sort of social circles where people have a household staff.

harpsichordcarrion · 04/10/2006 23:31

no, I haven't written it yet, I thought I might phone them
though it will get me nowhere.
I will draft something and post it here....
I hardly dare mention I made the store manager move a whole load of discounted formula off the shelves on Sunday poor bloke was thrilled I had brought it to his attention

Oh, you're all talking about Christmas names now - my goodness you've got to be quick round here.

harpsichordcarrion · 04/10/2006 23:34

oh no I am still talking about bf
I rarely stop, tbh

nappiesLaGore · 04/10/2006 23:34

staff! what a brilliant idea... i'll sack the mothers help and get a cook! (who can bake, obv)

tiktok · 04/10/2006 23:37

Formula milk manufacturers have a vested interest in making bf seem difficult or specialist and not normal.

Why should they give any advice out about breastfeeding at all? What has it got to do with them?

But they give advice about all aspects of babycare in their leaflets and clubs, including stuff about buggies and underwear.

Why do they do this? is it

a) to ensure all mothers have good information about how many vests to buy for their babies because they worry about them?
b) to keep their brand name in front of mothers and HCPs at all times and to sell more formula ?

Hmmmmmmm....I wonder?

nappiesLaGore · 04/10/2006 23:37

oh very goood, fanjo.

im talking about any old crap that comes into my head, me. fgs, dont follow me as a guide to whats going on!

this particular bf question is kind of answered tho, and without wordy its a bit boring tbh

nappiesLaGore · 04/10/2006 23:38

tiktok - hear hear. well said

nappiesLaGore · 04/10/2006 23:40

baublesgalore? or 'itmaybechristmasbuttheresstillnappiescomingoutmyears'?

hunkermunster · 04/10/2006 23:46

Oh, yes, Tiktok's post has reminded me.

I saw an advert for some follow-on once your baby is a millisecond older than 6m s/he needs this milk otherwise his/her iron stores will deplete and no doubt his/her head will fall off spectacularly leaving you to lament your failings as a mother and all-round human being milk the other day.

It implied that you'd obviously already been using infant formula, and this was just the natural progression for your baby.

I really, really don't like formula manufacturers. I have no problem with the actual product, don't get me wrong - of course women should have access to a safe breastmilk substitute that is suitable for their baby, etc - but I do really object to the sniggery "look, it's as good as bmilk, so just feed it to your baby and stop that weirdy mentalist shoving your boob in your baby's mouth every ten seconds malarkey, you twat" undertone to all their advertising.
