could be never (except for the soreness)!

Mine were full and hard for about 3days. Now they look like deflated balloons.

I stopped the other day and I'm using my breast pump to take a small amount off when they feel mega full and so far I've not had any discomfort.

Was about to post same question. Have stopped bf 3 weeks ago and now they are "normal" size but very tender. Is this normal and will they always be like that?

MandyBOO · 03/10/2006 19:04

Now i've got one "normal" sized boob and one massive one!! Freak!

Gah, went ot M and S to get measured for a bra and my boobs have now SHRUNK! How rude! Am now a measly 34B instead of 34C and ef no the voluptuous 36D I was when breastfeeding! Am I alone in this amazing shrinkong boobs phenomenon?

QuiQuoQua · 06/10/2006 10:28

mine were the same for a while, like empty balloons. I was quite upset about it TBH. But I must say they kind of returned to the pre-baby state a fem months ago. I B/F for 5 months and DD is now 14m.

don't despair!!

OK, this is what happens when you stop breastfeeding esp if you have done it for a substantial amount of time.

Initially they may be full and uncomfortably hard (this may not happen if you have weaned off the breast v....e.....r.....y gradually over months/years).

Then they may look like deflated balloons.

But - here's the good news - they do return to something like you had before (bearing in mind it may be quite some time ago if you count in pregnancy, that you were neither pg nor bf and time takes its toll!).

My understanding is that once you are hormonally non-pg/lactating, after a few weeks/months, you start to produce a normal amount of oestrogen and with this, your body produces fat. This is what then goes to the breasts, to replace the milk producing and storing tissue that is now somewhat shrivelled (I don't know what the technical term is) as it is not in use. We are unusual (maybe even unique, I am not sure) as mammals in having breasts when we are not pg or lactating, and it's fat that gives us our visible breasts. When it returns, your breasts become more shapely
