Good boob bad boob

Hoping for a bit of advice/reassurance. My DS is one week old and following a tongue tie snip is latching and feeding well. From one breast. He will feed from the other but I have to do crazy contortions and he has a tendency to repeatedly unlatch and glare at my boob. He is very long so I'm finding rugby hold a challenge as he'll kick out. Lying down is ok but not practical as an ongoing solution with a toddler as well.

So, what are the implications of sticking with good boob as my 'everyday' feeder and using bad boob when I'm at home, say for first or last/overnight feed? Any golden hints?

Fortuitously my boobs were already a bit lopsided and 'good boob' is a tiny bit smaller than the other...

Hi Flossie, your baby is only 1 week, so I think I would perservere with trying to feed from both and it may easily even itself out at such early stage. I am 4 months in and suddenly discovered a lopsidedness that bothers me, one boob is constantly soft and the other fills up all the time. I am trying to even it out by starting from the bad one, but not sure if it's working. i did a lot of reading and it's possible to feed from one boob-think of twins. Funnily enough, this is my second baby too, had no problems like that feeding my first!

Mine prefers 1 but the difference has reduced over 5 weeks and I can now use bad boob with complete ease! Stick with it! :)

Have you checked your breasts lately?

I would do that then if all is well offer that breast first until both are acceptable.

I bf from one side for 16 months, it was fine. If anything the bf side is smaller.

Could be your flow... Maybe too fast or too slow on that side? He might get used to it as he grows...

I agree keep offering the side, but not to the point of distress and maybe consider some expressing on that side incase he changes his mind about it?

This is essentially what I've been doing for last 4 months! My daughter is 5 months old and we can only feed "rugby ball hold" (look it up) from one side. It means she feeds lying on same side for both boobs. I rarely feed from the left out and about, I always offer "bad boob" first. Even in cradle hold which doesn't work well but just so she stimulates it and gets a little milk from it when we are out and about. I'd watch out for long periods of not feeding from it, and you could always put feeding pillow or other cushions that help in the car and sit and feed in back of car if you can get comfortable.

clearlymoo, you sound like me, even a similar username! I do the same, rugby ball hold from one side, and use 'good boob' in more public situations. Funnily enough, I was only complaining to dh earlier today about 'bad boob', which also seems to have a faster let down and drowns poor dd.

I only use my right boob once a day these days (8 month old DS EBF) And use my left for all other feeds.

My right just doesn't produce enough milk, plus DS doesn't seem to like that one!

Not sure I can advise if this is alright though because I was wondering myself if it's a problem or not. Seems fine though for me. No repercussions.
