Help please.. i am really stumped. bf dd is 4 months old and doens't seem to want to take decent feeds anymore..

DD is now four months old and in the last two weeks she just doesn't seem interested in taking a decent feed, she either cries or stops early. This from me and from a bottle either way she doesn't seem interested. This has caused her to wake more during the night, (which is ruining me !) and then she takes big feeds. This has been going on for over a week and i don't want it to become a habit that she only feeds well at night.. any ideas as I am stumped?
Could it be time to wean her, she is a big girl 15.5 pounds and 16 weeks old? HV says no way jose! Any other ideas tips?

Don't try to wean yet - 16 weeks is really too early.

It sounds rather as if she is getting to the distractable phase, where she is becoming aware of the world around her and finding it more interesting than feeding. The answer is: persevere. Weaning would almost certainly not help with the night waking as first weaning foods have fewer calories than milk.

my dd is a bit similar she has started feeding sporadically andisvery easily distracted, the only time she feeds really well when it is night and she cant get distracted in the dark! I just take heart in the fact that now she is bigger she is better at breastfeeding and nust be able to take milk more efficently than before.
My sil went through the same stage with her dd at agout 4/5 months (it was clear afterwards it was due to first tooth but it took weeks for this to be apparent) and she did start to wean, baby took to food really well but then ended up eating prob a bit too much and didnt gain weight and went very skinny, which was a real prob when her second tooth came as she wasn't eating or drinking much. So i wouldnt wean as milk is a comfort and calorie dense.
I was considering a nursing necklace with bright coloured plastic beads to avoid distraction but i was worried it would encourage her to play with my 'normal' jewellery,so maybe someone who has used one can advise.
