Remind me this gets easier

17 day old baby
Fed... 30-40? times so far today
Maybe 20 overnight
Hasn't slept more than a 20 min stretch for 48 hours
So much crying
I feel dizzy and tired
Last week I was calling her the easiest baby ever and she was sleeping in Moses basket on her own for hours at a time

Is she ok as long as she is on or near the breast? Objects to being removed even though you know she is not really trasferring milk.

'm assuming those feeding sessions are 'visits to the breast' - repeated ones, like cluster feeds or feeds with many gaps/breathers in between.

It does get easier. It sounds normal, if she is gaining weight and thriving. Sounds like she genuinely needs to be close to you - this is biologically-driven, and she may be making up for the lack of feeding/closeness last week.

It will not last. You do need to get help and care for yourself though. She may tolerate being skin to skin with someone else, while you sleep on your own. Is your partner around and able to do this?

She is putting on weight like a demon!! A lb up from birth weight already... Latch is good and it's not painful. She just wants more more more

Boyfriend has gone back to work now but will be around for the weekend, though there is also madcap 2 year old for him to chase... And he was in with coughing toddler most of last night unfortunately , normally he is v helpful overnight with baby

It must be a growth spurt right???? It has to pass??? I am going a bit batty with sleep deprivation / dehydration

Have you tried giving her a dummy? Babies have the physiological need to suck on things and it might be that she's using your breasts as a dummy.

I gave my DS a dummy before he was a week old and never looked back!

She comes off the breast fine actually, by herself, and looks like she might go to sleep or something, but 15 mins later screams hysterically until I put her back on!

I did give my elder daughter a dummy but not till 6 weeks... Will try a few more days and see if things settle I think, but might try that

It does get easier! I had similar, but it calmed down dramatically at the six week mark. (Which, I realise, at 17 days in is very little consolation to you.)

I got through it by cosleeping and letting my 3 year old watch a lot of TV.

I am sending my 2 year old to nursery/granny's quite a lot or boyfriend just takes her out all day... Feel like a terrible mum and miss her so much :(

We are co sleeping (well a mix of bed sharing and Moses basket depending whether I can be arsed to move her after feeding ) and it's been ok but the last 2 nights just awake every half hour... Even feeding lying down I am going a bit nuts

8 weeks in here and still awful. When does it get easier?

I can't remember... Dd1 (ebf) started doing loooong stretches of sleep at 5-6 weeks but it's probably not typical

God she was so ridiculously easy for the first 2 weeks! Fed, changed, went to sleep! Last 48 hours have been mental

Much better last night, back to 2 hourly feeds- phew! DP was able to take her between feeds till 3 am so I feel loads better. She is visibly bigger... (Think I might be smaller!)

Mine was like that 2-3 weeks. Now more regular - it was the time she was starting to gain weight in a significant way.
She went back to 2 hourly after a couple of days.
