How to night wean and when

Ds 8.5 months. We started weaning onto solids quite successfully but recently he is just not that interested in food. Same with daytime feeds, I think he is not very hungryin the day because he is having 3 massive feeds in the night.

I feel like I'm ready to start a bit of mix feeding and was thinking of doing formula for the middle of the day feeds but I know he will only take 2-3 oz from a bottle so amworried he will jjust start taking more milk in the night which is obviously not what I want.

We tried a bit of night weaning a few weeks ago but on occasion he cried on and off for 90 minutes (while being held) so we stopped.

when do you think you can just go cold turkey at night? Has anyone any experience of starting to offer bottles only on the night?

I feel like I'm on the verge of quitting breast feeding altogether and just making him have formula but then get upset thinking about it. I'm just fed up of battling every day to get him to eat or take milk.

Sorry this is really rambling!

Have you tried offering only water at night? I night-weaned ds at 6.5m with controlled crying, it was tough but only took about 2 nights to see massive improvement then another night to be mostly sorted. We did then settle into a pattern of me giving him a 10min breastfeed at 5am then immediately back to bed till 8/8:30am. He just couldn't seem to get past the 5am and I recon 8am wake ups are VERY civilised so was happy to do that, lated till he was nearly two! Cc us not girls everyone though. When you say "tried a bit of night weaning" what do you mean? If you are gonna do cold turkey or CC I think you have to be VERY ready as you really gotta stuck to your guns and it's very distressing. Have you looked at ADR Jay Gordens gentle night weaning method or read "the no cry sleep solution"?

We tried to settle the first time he woke if itwas before mmidnight without milk. Also if he then woke say only 2 hours later when I know he normally goes three.

First night he woke at midnight, I settled without a feed and he slept till 4. We thought we'd cracked it! We tried for about another 4 nights but he just would not settle without milk so I gave up and fed him. Its frustrating because if he can go until 4 without milk I just can't see how he can be hungry at 10.

But then other times I have managed to settle him at say 10 without milk and he's woken an hour later making me think he is hungry sometimes.

I will try water as soon as this tooth is through.
