She is exclusively bf and stil feeds v frequently. She was 6:6 at birth, went down to 6:1 and is now about 11:4 kellymom site said weight should have doubled by 3-4 months so am stressing

Don't stress. We are about 4lb off doubling birth weight at 5 months. My DD is happy and healthy with a slow, but steady gain. Try not to worry.

katandkits · 16/10/2014 23:09

I thought 4-6 months was more usual? My DD was 7,5 at birth. Lowest weight 6,15. At 16 weeks she is 13,2 so nearly two pounds away from doubling weight. It will probably take her six weeks to get there if she continues to track the same centile space.

mangofizz · 16/10/2014 23:41

Don't worry about it, as long as she's tracking her line everything is fine. My ds was 9lb 5oz born, lost 10% and took 5 weeks to regain it, tracking the 50th consistently after the initial drop. He still tracks it beautifully now and last week at 27 weeks was 4oz off 18lbs so nearly a pound off doubling birth weight. I'm not at all concerned, he's doing well :)

Dd1 didn't double birth weight till 9 months but dd2 managed it in under 3 months. They are all different.

PenguinsIsSleepDeprived · 17/10/2014 09:28

Is that a thing now? No idea when any of my three doubled theirs.

hubbahubster · 17/10/2014 13:05

Eh? Have never heard of this. I think DC2 might just be approaching double her birth weight now at 21 weeks (also EBF) but since she's nicely sticking to her centile or thereabouts in the red book, it didn't occur to me to worry!

wm3010 · 17/10/2014 14:15

Dd is 23 weeks and 75th centile but we are still a few oz away from doubling her birth weight of 8lb9oz. I understood that it usually happened in about the first 6 months and certainly it has never been raised as a concern by anyone with us.

feeona123 · 18/10/2014 00:36

We just hit 6.5 months and have yet to double birth weight.

6 15 at birth and 13 7 on Wed.

We've moved from the 0.4 centile up to the middle of the 2nd....I'm happy with that!

As long as they are following their line, that's the main thing x

booksandwool · 18/10/2014 20:18

UNICEF says either 5 or 6 months, can't remember which, but that's "average" presumably across boys/girls and all the centiles.
Is she following her birth centile? That should tell you when to expect realistic doubling for her.

AnythingNotEverything · 18/10/2014 20:22

I thought as a very rough guide it was double their birthweight by 6 months and triple it by a year?

Either a way, it's a very rough tool to measure healthy development. Look at the child not just the scale!

Beatrixemerald · 18/10/2014 22:26

Thanks all. I am super paranoid as despite not being particularly dainty myself I have the daintiest little daughter who is plotting between the 2nd and 9th centile and I read about the doubling birthweight between 3-4 months on the kellymom site which I have found really useful for info. She isnt a pparticularly hungry baby and is very content so think she is getting all she needs but I worry.

As long as she's tracking her lercentiles she's all good, don't worry.

PenguinsIsSleepDeprived · 20/10/2014 19:01

I look at this for you today as I had the red book out. At birth DS was a shade over 4kg, at 17 weeks he was a shade over 7kg. So miles off doubling Smile

Szeli · 21/10/2014 00:21

DS was 9.10 at birth so didnt double til 11 months despite tanking more than double the amount of milk he 'should' have he just excercises loads. they are what they are
