Its dh's 1st ever turn to do night feed with EBM bottle. Hes gone to bed so Im due to feed dd2 at around 11 , as she doesnt seem to wake for it , but dont think she should go longer as it will be 4hrs since bed time feed and I dont want to fully wake her. Ive never done this before as FF fed dd1, I just feel a bit anxious about it sitting here alone. Dh normally stays up to do this feed so I can get some shut eye before the night feed.

I used to dreamfeed breast feed with DS. It was very nice - I'd lift him out of the cot and he would latch on happily .

NotQuiteCockney · 29/09/2006 22:00

I did it with DS2. I had to focus a bit to get letdown to happen (yoga breathing etc), as he was just doing pointless little sucks, but once the letdown happened, he'd do his job just fine.

Lots of people are going to disagree with you (why are you waking a sleeping baby?! etc) but I'm with you on this one. I dreamfed both of mine at about that hour, like you one with bottles and the other breast, and it worked fine both ways. You may find that she doesn't need to fully wake to feed, just rouse enough to latch on and then she will get on with it. My dd rarely did that though, she would doze off again and I had to wake her a bit more - usually by changing her nappy or undressing her a bit, never by entertaining her.

DS2 dream bfeeds brilliantly. I just tickle his ribs gently if he dozes off before he's had a decent feed.

I woke dd up for a dream feed every night at about 10pm from when she was about three months until she was about ten and a half months - she never had any trouble latching on and went back to sleep right away. It was really lovely - my favourite feed, just me and her in the darkened room, with her all sleepy and milky. Sigh.

melsy · 29/09/2006 22:33

awwwww bless , yes Im looking forward to quiet cuddles.

DD is 8 months and have just stopped doing dream feeds. Picking her up just seemed to be enough to rouse her enough to bf. You'll be fine don't worry.

hana · 29/09/2006 22:43

i agree
i used to dream feed dd2 and although sleepy, she never said no! and always went back to sleep
was about the time you say as well - stretched her out that llittle bit more so I could get a bit more sleep as well

StinkyPete · 29/09/2006 22:43

isn't the idea of a dreamfeed that you feed baby without waking her? i have fed both mine at my bedtime without them waking at all. i'm sure it saves them from waking again too soon (ie when i've just got to sleep)
good luck melsy xxx

melsy · 29/09/2006 22:47

ahhh thank u girls, trust mn late at night when feeling all anxious. Yer StinkyPete it is supposed to be a dream feed , but dd2 if she rouses to much takes one look at me and thinks its smily coooey time. Bless her, it is gorge , but not when I want, no NEED sleep!!!

your braver than me mels, the one time i tried to dreamfeed ds it took 20 mins to get him to latch on, 45 mins of feeding, during which i dozed off and almost fell of the couch and at the end of which he was bright eyed and bushy tailed and awake for the next 3 hours!

{{{{sigh}}}} sounded like such a good idea too, looks like i'll have to stick to only getting an hour or 2's sleep before he wakes during the night.

if shes already getting dream feed bottles from dh though sounds like you'll be fine.... fingers crossed!

melsy · 29/09/2006 23:02

UH OH , eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeekk pink. My stomach churned there, but needed a realistic warning if it doesnt wrk out at least I have been warned! I realy cant take a livewire dd2 half the night again.

pray for me girls : please latch please latch !! Im now visualising a good happy quiet LATCHING dd2!!!!!!!!!!

Do it in as low a light as is possible (Dh bought me a head lamp for my birthday to feed Dd without turning light on so I could read) don't look at him/her (I know I know a bit unmentionable but sound advice) no fussing

IdrisTheDragon · 30/09/2006 12:01

How did your night go?

melsy · 30/09/2006 12:24

ooh I got so nervous lol, she was stirring anyway ,but it took a few mins for her to get going. She was quite wriggly , but eventually latched and boy boy did she suck hard , corrrrrrrrr, may be she was expeting a bottle , but she wouldnt have needed to suck so hard with a bottle surely ?, it definately felt like a much harder suck , weird that!!!!. My let down is quite fast again (it really slows when im drained) as ive been sleeping more , coupled with her strong suck , within 10-15 mins she seemed happy and nodded off again.

It was dh that had the probs, she decided to wait till 3:45, were she woke in a temper for her milky & gave dh beacon eyes !He fed her ,cuddled and then made a sharp exit to bed , several trips to give her the pacifier & eventually stopped fidgeting and settled down.

Not sure what it acheived , as i didnt get to bed till nr 12:30 , then I woke when she did for daddys feed time and found it hard to get back to sleep,(he sleeps downstairs the last few weeks so doesnt get disturbed , may be I should have !! So still had the same amount of little sleep,3hrs then an hr half as dd1 started banging things at 6:20 ish !!! So just as broken & had rock hard engorged boobs for it !!!! May be I shud take this to sleep board !!!
