Small green poos

My 5 m/o breastfed baby has been doing lots of small dark green poos for the last two weeks - one after every feed. (Before this she would do one big yellow one each day.) I read that green can mean they're drinking too much foremilk and not enough hind milk, but I don't think this is it - she has always been a fast and efficient feeder but seems to feed on each boob until empty. She seems happy and healthy in every other way. Can there be another reason?

I won't be much help as I have no experience of breastfeeding or breast milk just yet, but when I started taking iron tablets mine turned dark green too which is apparently a common reaction and harmless. So maybe your milk is high in iron?

Both of mine used to do really rank, runny green poos every so often. I never worked out why, but if can only presume it was to do with something I was eating. They never seemed out of sorts with it so I was never too bothered about it!

Green poo can mean lots of things and be totally normal. Teething, viruses, colds can all do it. IME the lite and often thing is common with the green poo and part if the reason it makes their bums so sore.

That's interesting Superworm as it started when she had a nasty cold. Thanks.

My DS had periods of green poo at around that age and it was always put down to a bit of a virus when i had it checked out. I wouldn't worry about the fore/hind milk thing if your baby is otherwise okSmile
