13mo refusing bf - ebf

Hi
My dd has been ebf. She's now 13mo, allergic to dairy and for the last 3 days has been refusing and feeds (still eating some solids but very fussy). She's not been well, quite feverish, but is on the mend. I've tried getting her to take rice milk but she'll only have a couple of gulps. She's drinking water thank god. im worried she won't take the breast again, and then she has no (great) source of calcium. If I give her DF formula she'll still only have a couple of gulps from a cup as she's never taken a bottle.

Does anyone have any advice? I knew we'd stop soon, but I wanted her to be gradually taking more dairy products before. This is far more sudden than I'd been expecting.

Xx

If she's been unwell she might just take a little bit of time to get back to the boob. Maybe just keep gently offering, don't make a big deal of it etc.

Can you express a little? Would she take some EBM from a cup?

Oh thank you. She honestly goes mad if I offer her, really screaming. 3 days on and I'm worried mastitis will be coming my way again soon. It makes me realise how happy she is usually...it's like she's been possessed, the poor thing.

Aw the poor pet. Maybe have a little check of her mouth to make sure she hasn't any signs of thrush or mouth ulcers- both can cause pain when eating and I'd imagine might make BF particularly uncomfortable.

I'd definitely express a bit if you're worried about mastitis I think. Even if she won't take the EBM!

Sounds like she's not herself yet- a little more time might be all she needs. Fingers crossed for you Thanks.

Thanks so much - I really appreciate it. I realised tonight that all this started exactly a week after her MMR vaccination so now wondering if it's the measles side effects that has turned little miss happy into something out of The Excorcist. Fingers crossed it'll be better in a day or two xx
