One off formula advice at 4 1/2 months Help

My baby is 4 1/2 months and I have to leave her for 7 hrs tomorrow. This is unexpected and she has been exclusively bf until now. I wondered if I could give her formula as a one off as I don't think I'll have time to express enough in time.
She is fine drinking from a bottle as I have given her express milk plenty of times before. I am just worried about formula re allergies etc...but she is nearly 5 months so I was thinking it is nearly weaning time and so it should be ok on her stomach? Would appreciate any advice. I have Hip Organic and Aptimil as options.

A very few babies are allergic, but obv most are fine.

Either of those products are suitable for her. There's no significant difference in quality or content, from the nutritional point of view.

You will prob need somewhere comfortable to express when you are away.

Hope this helps :)

Thanks that is very level headed advice. I will be away from 12 - 6ish do you think I will need to express if I feed just before I leave? I was hoping to make it it'll I got back.

Dunno! That's six hours. I think you'll be uncomfortable if you are fully bf.

Snoopy, you might make it, but at 4.5 months I would definitely have had to express once if not feeding for 6 hours. If you don't want lots of faff, maybe just take a couple of muslins with you and express off enough for comfort in a convenient loo or somewhere, rather than take sterilised bottles etc.

If you have a small manual pump then just have a quick express halfway through in a ladies somewhere if you're desperate and chuck it away (and wear breast pads!). Says someone who had to go away for 5 days and kept it ticking over enough to bf for 5 more months on return Smile. It went slightly against the grain to throw it out but such a faff to take sterilised bottles etc. As for allergies, I'm no expert but if you've been eating dairy and your baby has been fine, I think that's a good sign.

Oh thank you that is really helpful. Never been away from her before. Will grab a manual pump before I go. Thanks for all your advice. Smile

Hope it all is going/went ok!

Thanks for all the help. It went very smoothly. I cheated a bit and left early as I couldn't face the pumping bit, but it wasn't too bad and she only had one feed while I was away. The formula didn't seem to bother her at all and she fed as normal in the evening. Phew! Thanks again for the support x
