High palate causing poor latch?

I should've asked on here months ago, but it only just occurred to me!
DS2 is 5mo, feeds well now after getting his TT sorted when tiny and early problems getting feeding established, but he still has a terribly shallow latch and seems to manage to suck air in when he otherwise appears to have a good latch.
He has a high palate - could this be causing it?
We saw a lactation consultant in the early weeks and have been back a few times since to her free clinic with a cranial Osteo partner. They couldn't quite pin down what the problem was, or say for sure why he was breaking his latch and taking air in. I had got lazy with positioning (due to being knackered!) but even after getting him perfectly positioned he's still not latching properly.
The shallow latch can make me a bit sore sometimes, but mostly the problem is the sucking air in - what do you think?

Thanks
