I'm very worried today. Ds is 2 weeks old and bf has been a breeze since birth. Lost 10% by day 3 but had passed out birthweight by several ounces at 1 week old. Always latched well, I never had pain. Lots of wet and dirty nappies.

Since last night, my breasts have suddenly become very soft and nipples are flat. Previously my breasts were full and hard, nipples very erect. Today, ds is finding it much harder to latch. He does eventually and feeds well but I am worried. What has happened? Is my supply low?

I'm so upset to see him distressed and I don't ever remember this happening at just 2 weeks before.

I would appreciate any advice...

I'm no expert, but I seem to remember your breasts go soft because they have become accustomed to the milk supply. Mine did exactly the same (dd is 10 weeks). Mine are much softer and more pliable now. Maybe he's just adjusting to that or being fussy for some other reason and it's coincided with the change in your boobs?

Not an expert but I am roughly 2 weeks and had similar at 11 days. My HV said it was in reaction to a growth spurt/rise in supply with my body then getting used to it. She also said that breasts are like a tap/sink: hard means full but floppy/soft just means the milk is being used as it's being made - if the baby's jaw is doing the gulp movement and they pee/poo, they're eating. As I said this is just what I was told but hopefully true!
TBH I poked my nipple to make it more erect! Grin It seems to work fine now. My nipple dribble when she cries and she finds them slippery too - so I dab them off with tissue!
After that she latches and feeds.

Jealous of your weight regain. 10G below birth weight at 12 days (so on track for regain by 2 weeks) but would LOVE to be on the actual growing by now!! Will worry till that happens (MW and HV confident it will).

Thanks for replies. Since I posted, he fed on right side but when he tried the left he couldn't latch and fell asleep. Soft areola was really bothering him Sad This has never happened since he was born. Since then, I went into cold bathroom and exposed the breasts and nipples were erect (tmi sorry) but maybe that might help him next time.

Squizita, don't worry about weight. I think it's a boy/man thing because my dd's were much slower. I think they often don't reach their birthweight until 3 weeks or so. Ds is just a monster, he was 8lbs at birth and is now 9lbs at 2 weeks -EBF Blush hv said that will slow right down though, he must have just had some sort of growth spurt.
