Breastfeeding is generally going well but as baby is getting older I'm finding a few niggles and just wondered if anyone has any tips on the following:

  1. Gets distracted easily
  2. Starts fiddling with the scarf I use to cover up in public and I have to make sure he doesn't pull it off
  3. How often should I be feeding him at this age? He's on reasonable solid intakes 3 times a day (mixture of purees and finger food). When he's getting distracted I'm not sure whether this means he's not that hungry and doesn't really need food.
  4. He is quite often sleeping through the night now (11 hours on a good night) and I wake up really uncomfortable, leaking loads - shouldn't this have settled down by now?

Hi Imeg - no advice I can offer except to say my DS is nigh on impossible to feed out in public now or in fact in any room where other people are talking - he's just too distracted. He's also so big and wriggly so I pretty much only feed him at home now. He's hard to manoeuvre into a comfy position unless I'm properly sprawled out on a sofa.

I had a HV home visit yesterday to talk about BF and weaning as he doesn't really eat very much solid food - he won't be spoon fed so rely on him sucking and playing with finger food. He's going into nursery in a month so he needs to either learn to drink milk from a cup or eat food pronto or go very hungry two days a week!

Anyway, we're on about 5-6 breastfeeds a day and she said by 8 months aim for 4 feeds a day.

hiya mine is 10.5m. firstly I've found she's much less diatractable now she's having fewer feeds, and anyway it doesn't really matter if she has a tiny feed while out as she can always eat food. o never used a scarf, just try without one?

I am still on 4-5 feeds a day (0630 1000 1500 1830) though all but the morning one vary a lot, I can't bring myself to stop offering as some days she wants more...

my boobs adapted fast to sttn but I was never much of a leaker and I guess if some nights you're feeding it's not a consistent message to the boobs. mine were no longer massive after I think 2/3 nights

yes maybe he's not so hungry if too distracted I wouldn't worry and just take him off

I meant to say I've been doing those bfs since 6/7m, with maybe one more before nap at 1230

Thank you :)

My DS used to play peek a boob with any thing I used to try to cover up. I just stopped bothering. People can't see much anyway.
I agree with take him. Off if he is distracted. He will probably make up for it with a bigger feed when you get home.
