How regularly should I breastfeed my 13 week old?

Some people have told me every three hours. I struggle to do this, due to his crap naps, so I am more like every 2 or 2 1/2 hours…it varies throughout the day. Is this ok or should I be more regimented about it? Is it ok to follow this pattern? I am assuming that by 6 months and once solids are introduced and accepted I will just naturally stop breast feeding quite so frequently? Any reason to change what I am doing?

Thanks.

Absolutely should be on demand. Even If that's every 30 mins that's up to him (if you have time!)

Don't try and space feeds for a tiny baby.

Just feed on demand, it's easier and better (both for your baby and for your milk supply). Less crying to deal with too.

As much as they want. Although I wouldn't go longer than 2.5/3hrs during the day to encourage more day/less night feeding.

At 3 months my son fed constantly. Now at nearly 9 months he has five feeds in 24hrs.

At 13 weeks DS fed every 2-2 1/2 hours during the day. He was a bit of a snacker and it was during the summer so he was thirsty as much as hungry a lot of the time. He also fed to sleep at that age so would feed before naps (and after naps, and between naps Grin ).There's certainly no real reason to stretch out feeds. Feeding on demand worked for me. He started to stretch the feeds out himself and then once he went onto solids dropped a lot of day feeds slowly.
