My week old dd feeds well during the day but in the evening is starting to cluster feed and then is very uncomfortable for the first half of the night. I have a very fast let down so she gulps a lot at the start of feeds and is always quite sick after a feed. I do wind her but it's quite hard to get it up.

Should I just carry on allowing her to feed on demand as she does still want to feed when she is uncomfortable, or should I wait until she has calmed down. Im wondering whether feeding on an unsettled stomach is just exacerbating the problem.

Also does anyone have any tips for helping them to deal with a fast let down? TIA

If you could feed her with her not lying quite so flat she may not swallow so much air. Tricky I know. Not sure about the quick let down - you don't want to express the first bit off until it slows down because she'd miss out on the colostrum. I think it'll probably settle down soon anyway as your body adjusts to your baby's needs.

I would allow her to continue to feed on demand - I don't really think denying her would help as the crying would probably cause as much if not more wind than the feeding!

I'm sure you're doing a great job but it's just so hard during those early weeks. Go with what your instincts tell you - I think that's what's best. Good luck!
