Confused Breasts

Hi All,
Advice sought about breasts that haven't worked out yet that I have stopped bf!!!
After over six months of feeding my dd I dropped my last feed over 2 weeks ago. It was the morning feed and I had been feeling quite empty anyway. I expressed the 2 days after dropping the feed but was getting only a couple of ounces, so didn't bother after that. All seemed fine, but this weekend, both breasts started hurting a little and feel lumpy in places with what feels like seams of milk. One has leaked a little and when I squeeze them (sorry to be graphic), milk does come out. What is going on? They are still tender today. How long should it take for my body to right itself, should I be concerned? I'm sure it didn't take this long for me to dry up after I stopped feeding ds.
Any ideas?

hi, i had problems for days after i stopped breastfeeding when my ds was 18 months despite the fact that i had tried to stop gradually. in the end my gp gave me a tablet called bromcriptine, (think that's spelt right0. apparantly this is given to mum's whose babies are stillborn to cease milk production and my milk dried up immediately and the swelling and painful lumps disappeared. Good luck

Are you definiteabout stopping bf? If so don't squeeze atall, just wait it out, should only takeaday or so.

Thanks for the advice - i am sure about giving up and have only sqeezed once. I am worried that you both say it should only take a couple of days and it has now been over 2 weeks.

I'd avoid tablets at all costs - why not contact a bf counsellor?

i think it can take a while i would not be alarmed just leave them to calm down

benand....this is normal. Stop squeezing, for a start

It can take weeks, even months, for production to cease after well-established bf....you should be watchful about the lumps, though.
