Hi All.

Tuesday lunch time I took DD (1 week old) off the breast and put her on the breast out of sheer exhaustion and mashed nipples. She cluster fed for up to a continuous 4 hours at a time at night and I couldn't handle it.

She's been on formula since her 1pm feed on Tuesday but also had a formula feed Monday night. But she did have 20 mins on each breast last night as she was so fussy I didn't know how else to comfort her.

I now feel guilty and want to try again at breastfeeding. Plus nipples are better now I took a break.
I just managed to express 2oz from each breast (took 15 mins each side). Is this a good sign?

What do I do now to build my supply back up? Should I express every few hours or just wait now for her to cry for her next feed and put her to the breast?

Thanks x

The best way to build your supply is to feed as frequently as possible. Offer at least both sides, or more, at each feed. You might want to express after feeds too, and you might have to judge whether she still needs a few top-ups that you can reduce.
