3 week old eating too much?

My DS is 3 weeks on Tuesday and after a too large drop in weight at 5 days as he wasn't latching well (my boobs too massive and him too lazy according to midwife!) we started pumping and feeding with a bottle so we could give him 2oz every 2 hours (and added in some formula as my supply couldn't keep up). This worked like a dream and he's now a healthy happy baby up to 7lb11oz already. However the last 2 days he's massively upped his food intake, yesterday before bed he drank 4oz in one go and then 1 hour later was madly rooting and fussing so I offered him another bottle and he chugged 2oz of that back, then needed more so drank another 2oz. So 8oz in 2 hours and he wasn't sick after so it wasn't too much for him! He now seems to need 3-4oz every 2 hours, occasionally 1 or 3 hours. I'm pretty sure that he's ok as he'd vomit if he are too much, but is it normal for a not yet 3 week old to massively increase intake like this? I'm not going to deny him what he wants but is he a freak baby with a massive stomach?!

Not claiming to be an expert or anything but could it be the sucking/comfort that he wants? Does he calm down if you give him a finger to suck on or have you tried a dummy?
