Hi!My DS is 6 weeks old.I was breastfeeding on demand initially to establish a good milk supply.Since the past 2 weeks, I have been expressing milk.I was giving him a bottle only at night. But for the last week, since he was not settling in well, I started expressing more often and am giving him bottles at the 7 pm and the 10 pm feeds.Since the last two days, inspite of him being at the breast for hours on end, he is very cranky and will not sleep unless he has had ebm from the bottle.Have I jeopardised my breastfeeding which was going on so well?I am seriously worried.

It's a growthspurt and really normal behaviour for lil Baby's!
Your best bet is to just let him feed on demand, as the more he suckles the better he will get your milksupply going...!
I know it can be frustrating to feed for what seems like forever, but try to enjoy it, get yoruself comfy with a good book or movie and some snacks etc...!
Problem wiht expressing is that it just isn't as good as the suckling of the Baby itself, iykwim!

Neilsmum....I think it is probably related (as you suggest) to the expressing. Giving bottles of anything - including ebm - to make a gap between feeds can impact on the supply. If he is having bottles at 7 pm and at 10 pm, he is going a long time....more importantly, you are going a long time. One way of combatting this is to breastfeed direct instead of giving the bottles of ebm. Try this, and if things are better after a few days, let us know

No, you have not jeopardised your bf. You can turn it round.
