Balancing sides or giving sore nipple a break?

I'm bfing my 11 day old and it's mostly going well but about 5 days ago I got a tiny cracked patch on one side, just under his top lip in cradle hold. I've been using lansinoh and flippling to deepen the latch; it's not getting worse but it's not getting better either. I have just started experimenting with a more vertical hold that takes the pressure off the sore spot and this seems to help a bit.

My question is whether I should try to give the sore nipple a break to recover, or if I should keep trying to use both sides evenly? Have seen both advised in the sites I've consulted. I've been using a nifty little app to track feeds and I'm definitely using the sore one less; between 30-60 mins less in a day. Any suggestions?

When I had a cracked nipple in the 1st/2nd week I expressed from that side to let it heal.

Think it wasn't more than 24 hours and I was back feeding from that side

Nipple shield? Mine recovered after using shields for 24 hours and switching to rugby hold. Smile
