I have a 3 week old DS, and am fully bf him.

This morning, he drank from my right side when he woke up at 7ish. He obviously didn't empty the breast though as it still feels quite full now. While he was feeding I expressed 3 oz off the left side, which now feels pretty empty.

Question is, which side should I feed him from when he wakes up for his next feed? The one that still feels quite full (right), or the one that feels more empty (left). If I feed him from the fuller one, am I just stimulating my right breast to produce more milk than the left one?

You'd think I'd never done this before! This is DS no. 2... and I'm still confused!

Hi, claire. The object of feeding is not to 'empty' the breast or breasts....just to get the milk in your baby needs at the time.

Honestly, it doesn't really matter which side you feed from first next. It all works out in the end!

It's prob sensible to feed from the side that feels fullest (right) just to keep yourself comfortable.
Please don't worry about equalising out supply - it's not important

Thanks Tiktok, I was hoping you'd be around... - just had a shower and was creating a second shower all of my own from my right breast, so had come to the conclusion I should use that one, as I don't want to get all clogged up! I remember feeding DS1 I always had one side that seemed to produce (or at least feel like it was producing) loads more than the other. Maybe that's not actually true, and the left side is just more efficient at producing what is needed at the time?

I will try to stop worrying.

clairemow , I know how u feel re sides , my dd2 is 5 weeks old and was going to ask a very similar question. With dd1 I couldnt BF very well and had to stop at 3-4 wks so I feel like a 1st timer this time arround.
