1 year old - how much milk?

Ds is now 1yr so wondered how much milk I should be giving him. He currently has around 3oz of cows milk with his weetabix for brekkie followed by 4oz formula, then 7oz formula around 2pm, then another 7oz bottle before bed. Also, should I start giving him his milk in a bottle like the Avent Magic Cup or stick to his normal avent bottle?

Sounds ideal amount, guidence is 16-20ozs a day.

As to changing it from bottle to sippy cup, entirely your call tho when i nannied i had charges mostly off bottles by 14m's.

Should I be giving him more cows milk and less formula now though?

hi, apparantly, its not reccommended that babies still drink from a bottle after 1 year although i know this is a sore point with some people. i breastfed my son until 18 mths but my daughter switced to bottles after 8mths. she sees a specialist dentist at the hospital because of a heart condition and although i was reluctant to stop her bottles of milk becos she loved them so much, he advised that drinking from a teat after 1 year is a major cause of tooth decay in babies and young children.
i pointed out that i never gave her juice from a bottle and argued that surely milk is neccessary and good for teeth. ?
he insisted that babies still need the same amount of milk but should only have it from a cup. he stated that the natural sugars found in milk are just as harmful as juice if babies after 1 year are sucking from a botle regularly, particularly if they are given botles of milk last thing or throughout the night as the milk is swishing aroung the teeth for long periods!
my dughter very reluctantly gave up her bottles and switched to cups and sippy cups.

slight thread hijack here

DS2 still has milk from a bottle 3 times a day (he is 17 months). I have tried and tried since he was 12 months to wean him off and use a spout but he just will not have it. (Didnt have this problem at all with my other two). If I refuse him a teat and make him drink milk from a spout he just refuses point blank to have any milk at all. . He will quite happily drink water from a spout. Any ideas?

sorry, hijack over.

poppiesinaline, have you tried the nuby soft spout? available at tesco.

Shooaloo, which ever you feel happier him drinking, some parents i know give formula or goats milk as the primary source rather than straight cows.

Thanks MatNanPlus, I have tried loads of different spouts to no avail. Dont think I have tried that one though. Will look out for it but somehow Im not holding my breath! ah well, I keep telling myself that he wont be drinking from a teat when he's 15!

I know the feeling! and you're right, he wont be drinking from a bottle forever.
the soft spout variety teats are easier to offer in the transition although it takes a lot of perseverance! maybe offer just the cup with water for a few days until he really misses the milk. won't do any harm for short time and hopefully he'll be so gld to be offered it again he'll drink it out of anything!
