dear all, desperate for some advice. I have been breastfeeding for 5 months, now trying to stop and start bottlefeeding with formula. tried about 5 weeks ago with SMA gold - 3 hours later, baby violently vomited the entire contents. left it for 5 weeks then tried again today. used the tommee tippee closer to nature bottles and teats which he accepted no problem. this time gave him the cow & gate first infant formula - 1 hour later, violently vomited up the entire contents again, this time vomiting 6 times in an hour. it comes up so horribly, its out of his nose and everything. he is not usually a sicky baby at all. has this happened to anyone else? is their going to be a big problem with formula? or do I need to keep trying different ones? any suggestions?? please help, I'm back to work soon and he needs to be on a bottle by then. thanks

I would ring your GP/HV with this one. It might be best to check out whther he has some sort of allergy or intolerance before you continue. At 5 months have you started any purees at all and if so how do they go down/stay down? It would be interesting to know whether its just a milk thing or whether it's anything that's not breast milk. Give your thread a bump later on today - I'm, sure somebody will be able to help.

thanks - I rang my HV this morning as I was so concerned - you are right, she is thinking possible lactose intolerance and suggests I try SMA LS which is lactose free - if he has same reaction, have to go to GP for allergy testing. I am going to try and keep breastfeeding but unfortunately he keeps biting me!! I have started purees and they go down a treat - he loves it and we have no problem with that at all! have been doing that for a week, introducing a new food every 3 days, so alls well there. will report back after I try SMA LS! thanks again for your advice!

SMA LF Aggiemum.

It is available on Prescription so i would pop into your surgery and ask for a script on the advice of your health visitor, many smaller chemists have a tin or two and the larger Boots.
