Breastfeeding pain...

A friend (she can't get on here so doing iton her behalf) has a 4 wk old. They have had some latching issues, thought they were resolved. Both had suspected thrush, again thought this was resolved.

Anyway, she has some pain when latching although it goes quite quickly. She then has pain during a feed and after. The pain is in both boobs though at the same time. She says that only thing that makes it feel any better is squeezing the whole boob tight.

Anyone? I had thrush with DS and it was only the feeding side that was affected at any one time. I also had letdown pain (which this sounds more like) but not after feeds? Any suggestions? I think she's at the crossroads of quitting.

suzi, this does sound like thrush - I am on my 5th bout as it's very hard to get rid off, however she should have her latch checked out by a trained bf counsellor (ie not just MW or HV).
Hope she can get this sorted before she gives up. Good that she has you to support her.

It could be a strong let down reflex. I used to get pins and needles in both my breast when feeding.

I would definitely suggest she see a trained BFC though as pp said. better to be sure in these things. Also get rechecked for thrush as it is notoriously difficult to get rid of sometimes!

Keep on supporting her as much as you can. I'm sure she can come through this very soon. She just needs to stick with it.
