Returning to work and introducing formula

20wo DD has been exclusively breastfed up until now. In a month I am returning to work 4 days a week and will be away from her for 11 hours on those days. I want to switch the feeds that I will be at work for formula.

Oops, pressed post too early!

Will it be possible to breastfeed for all the feeds on days I am with her and give formula when I am not or will my supply not work that way?

I was planning to drop down to just breastfeeding in the morning and at night most likely. How slowly would I need to drop feeds to avoid excessive engorgement?

DD currently feeds 4am, 7, 10, 1pm, 4, 7, 10 (roughly).

I have just done this - going back to work when my baby will be 26 weeks (24 weeks now). I started swapping feeds at about 20 weeks and was quite casual about it at first - sometimes breast, sometimes bottle - but unfortunately my body wasn't quite so casual and didn't cope with chopping and changing!

DS does similar to your DD - 5am, 7am (breastfeeds), 10.30am, 2pm (bottles), 4.30pm, 7pm (breastfeeds). I probably gave two weeks for each feed I changed just to be sure my supply adjusted but that was cautious. I'd say 4-7 days for each feed maybe?

I've read plenty of people saying they did manage to do bottles during the week and breastfeed at weekends but not sure if I'll be able to do that.
