Too much milk, painful breast!!!

Hi I posted the other day about expressing whilst I try to get DD back to the breast after having jaundice. She's 10 days old now and I'm still expressing in the meantime. My right breast is fine but the left one just seems to make far too much milk!! I'm trying to use the electric pump every 2-3 hours for about 10-15 minutes at a time but the left breast is so full and hard and tender again within that amount of time! I'm not emptying it fully when I express as I don't want to encourage even more production. Is this right? What should I do differently? It's been like this for a few days now!!

sounds like you are doing the right thing. are you right handed? might just be that you are pumping harder on that side and now are in the cycle of producing more. it will calm down, try and pump for a shorter time on that side? once baby is on the boob they will settle down pretty fast. xx

Savoy cabbage straight from the fridge in your bra on that side might help. And have a look at kellymom.com, it's brilliant on things like this.

Sounds like you are doing the right thing. It's early days and it will calm down. Well done Grin
