EBF 1 year old won't take expressed milk

We are encouraging our baby to drink expressed BM from a cup. This is so I can occasionally work evenings on return to work, and also so there will be a freezer stash once we stop breast feeding in a few months or so.

However he doesn't seem at all interested! He enjoys tipping it out of the cup but not keen to drink any.

Not sure what to do. He drinks water fine out of a cup with a free flowing spout but have been giving milk in a baby or doidy cup. I can't really offer milk in the cup with a spout because I only get about 1oz a go so I don't think he'd actually get any and we don't want to introduce a bottle at this point for dental decay reasons.

Any thoughts about what to do ? It is a bit distressing seeing the hard-won milk splashed everywhere except into the baby.

At 1yo you know you can give cow's milk as a drink? Some people's expressed milk is kind of minging (mine included) especially if it has been in the fridge or freezer which could be why he's refusing it. Could you not just offer cow on the nights you're away then BM direct from the source when you're home?

I second giving cow's milk when you are unavailable at this age. Dd2 wouldn't take expressed milk either and wouldn't touch formula but did drink cow's milk. Good luck.

Hi thanks for the suggestion. He has a bad reaction to cows milk. He used to happily take expressed milk by bottle when little even after it had been frozen and thawed so I don't think it tastes funny.

Water down your EBM and give it to him from his water cup? At least that way he's getting his ounce of milk!

ToddleWaddle · 10/08/2014 22:34

Can you put it in food like porridge or other cereal?

CultureSucksDownWords · 10/08/2014 23:16

Have you tried goats milk instead of cows milk? Could be worth a try.

Thanks will try watered down and in food. Will cooking take away Ny benefits?
