Mastitis and pus

Got mastitis, temperature was 40 last night and I had terrible shakes.

Seen out of hours GP who has given me antibiotics but didn't seem that clued up on mastitis/breastfeeding. I've got pus coming out of the affected breast but am assuming it's ok to continue to feed DD - the pus can't hurt her can it?

You poor thing. I had this once and it was possibly the most ill I have ever felt. I had a lot of pus and blood in the affected side and DD did stop feeding after a while as I guess it tasted foul. I took hot baths every so often and (TMI) expressed into the bath as much as I could. Continue taking the antibiotics and read the BfN infosheet on it. I took it to the GP near the end of the tablets and asked him to extend the course to ensure it was truly gone. Rest really helps and regular painkillers. Good luck.

I also found the La Leche League 'bag of marbles' massage helped.
