Painful engorgement

How painful and engorged should I get as milk is coming in?

Dd is 4 days old milk came in yesterday and breasts were very full hot hard etc. DD had some trouble latching so I expressed small amounts to make it easier.

Today one breast is hard but not painful the other is really sore and hard and throbbing with pain.. Is this normal? DDs latch is fine I think and she's weeing and pooing normally.

My dd is 4 days old too and my milk came in yesterday too. First baby so no idea what's normal but cabbage leaves from the fridge straight into bra really helped. (Looks stylish too )

I had this... My milk came in day 3 and books were so hard and hot I couldn't even feed. Was agony and scary as dd was getting desperate. I tried to express and nothing came out. What really worked for me was standing under a hot shower with a flannel in each hand and massaging boobs for a good 10 mins to soften them. The difference was amazing. I could then feed afterwards and flow really got going. Dd now 9 weeks and lovely and chunky and feeding away fine. Good luck, hope it gets better.
