I just don't know what to do with baby nugget, he's 8 week's old and breastfed, put on weight really well after he was born didn't lose anything. The hv came and said he's dropped a centile and we need to keep an eye on him, get him weighed every other week, maybe top up with formula or switch completely if it doesn't change. Saw the Dr who said his weight is fine. He's been really irritable the last week or so, started eating his hand and dribbling. I try to feed him when he seems hungry but he gets angry and pushes away sometimes he'll feed for 5 minutes, so I leave it a little while, that'll happen 2 or 3 times before he finally gives in because he's starving. I don't know what to do, I hate seeing him like this and I don't want him to get so hungry. What can I do to make him eat and what's wrong with him Sad

All sounds totally normal to me. Centiles are a blunt instrument anyway and don't allow for lots of things. Is he alert, having wees and poos and generally ok in himself?

The chewing and dribbling could be teething.

Yeah he still has plenty of dirty nappies (will only poo ina fresh nappy Hmm) hes more ratty than normal especially when he has to eat. I did think he could be teething but thought I was crazy because he's so young. I suppose I shouldn't judge it by his age as he started cooing at 2 day's old and has been holding his head up for a few weeks (shocked the Dr Grin)

He is a genius baby Grin.

He does sound fine, keep doing what you're doing.

I am no expert, by the way, but I have bfed three and they all fussed and popped on and off and chewed and chomped and grizzled. And they are all strapping toddlers through to preteens now.

I sound like I'm bragging but I promise I'm not Smile thanks for replying I feel like I'm going insane obsessing over his feeding but he's great during the night so he isn't completely starved.
I don't know how you did it 3 times and with toddlers/older kids running around! Since having ds I have so much more respect for mums especially those with more than 1 kid

Original post sounds normal - he'll eat when hungry - I'd continue to bf to keep supply up. Chewing and dribbling is completely normal too. He could be unsettled with feeding due to a wonder week? Just keep offering him milk and I'm sure he'll be absolutely fine. Some days they are hungrier than others.

I expect he'll be reading Shakespeare soon. Wink
