Favouring one breast

I am wondering if anyone can advice. My son is 7 weeks old tomorrow. After a tricky start things seem to be stabilising from a feeding point of view. The issue I have is he doesn't seem to like my left breast. I can get him to take it if he is sleepy or very chilled but if he is hungry /screaming etc he just won't latch on and will scream until I offer the left which he takes easily.

I have no idea why this is and was just wondering if it is likely to cause any problems in the future as it doesn't bother me that much at the moment .

I think a preference is fairly normal. Both my DC favoured the left one. I think it might be a difference in let down/flow perhaps? Or maybe the way I hold them is different?

I've noticed that DS isn't as fussy with the right (unfavoured) one if I feed him lying down.

I think it's quite normal for a baby to prefer one breast over the other when feeding. My 3 DC all favoured feeding from my left breast. For me, it was because I found it much harder to get the positioning correct when they fed from my right breast and consequently i don't think they latched on so well. What's important is to make sure your milk supply on the less favoured doesn't drop. I always offered the less favoured side first, let DC feed for as long as they wanted from this side, then swap to the other breast and when they'd finished, swap back again to the other side. Over time I found that each DC fed more equally from each breast. Good luck!

Can you try a different position on the unfavoured side maybe Rugby ball or lying down as pp suggest it !at fool your lo in thinking its the favoured side?x Keep on persevering you may find your lo will change preference of sides x

My DS favoured the right breast from as soon as he was born, trying to feed him on the left was a nightmare at times It was frustrating but as the weeks passed he started accepting both sides
