Hungry Baby

Hi. Due to problems with breast feeding I have been giving my daughter EBM since she was born. She is now 6 weeks and I have started to introduce some formula feeds as the expressing was beginning to take its toll on me. She was 9lb at birth and is now 11lb 7. I have loads of milk and express about 8-9 ozs at each express session. The problem is my daughter never seems to be satisfied! She takes between 5-8 ozs at each feed regardless of whether it is EBM or formula and she often wants this every 2 hours! Her last evening feed usually takes her through to 4 hours but after that she is 2-3 hours during the night. She is rarely sick and I am told that it is impossible to overfeed as she would simply throw it back. However I am worried that she is taking too much! I am also wondering how we will ever get more than 2 hours sleep at a time ever again! Anyone else been through this?

Poor you you must be knackered! She's a good size, and it may be that she just needs more (gulp!) If you have enought EBM, maybe try giving her 2 bottes at a time during the day? You could try a hungry baby formula - they are caesin based rather than whey based so sit in the tummy longer, so they feel full for longer - worked with my DS having it at night as he went longer so I got more sleep and the regular stuff during the day. At least then if you can get a bit of sleep at night, 8-9 oz every 2 hours in the day isn't as bad (but still bloody hard work ). Only prob with hungry baby food is they can be a bit more sicky (but as I had a sicky DS, it was hard to tell whether the hungry formula made it worse!).
Another thought, does she actually want to suck for comfort rather than for food - may be worth trying a dummy (if you're not totally offended by them of course) at least that way you can be sure. Good luck!
