when to switch from no1 to no2 teat - Using Avent bottles

Ds is now 9 weeks coming on to 10 weeks old. Have been using smaller wide necked avent bottles but today bought bigger ones as he seems to be taking more like 5 oz now each feed rather than 4 oz. The new bottles came with no 2 teats (didn't notice when I got them). Should I carry on using the no 1's from the old bottles (they fit both as far as I can see) or use the no 2's -He's a windy boy and quite guzzly and I'm concerned that the no 2's will allow him to drink faster and increase his already gassy/windy disposition (which bothers him quite a lot..
All advice welcomed !

hi dibley. We moved DS to number 2 teats around 4 weeks. Apparently it helps wind because if he is sucking too hard to get the milk then he'll be taking in too much air. try them and see how you get on. In fact, DS was on number 3 teats by 9 weeks (but he is lazy and greedy - interesting combination). by the way, I found the large AVENT bottles incredibly leaky and trying everything couldn't crack it. swicthed to boots wide neck bottles (avent teats fit) and hardly have any probs. Hope that helps

thanks for that - I have some dr browns too which also leak - I have to put a muslin round them otherwise we both get covered ! I'll try the no 2 teats - sounds like that might help matters (I thought I had read somewhere that using a higher number teat could help matters)...

if you are having problems with wind try sainsbury's anti colic bottles. they have a vacuum thing in so the baby doesn't suck air. think they are £4 or £5.

my dd hated avent teats, found them too pointy and couldn't 'latch on' to them so she was taking on too much air. she much prefered tommee tippee 'nuby' ones. congratulations on your lovely new baby.

my ds has been on size 3 teats since 10 weeks. he's now 16 weeks, when do you think i should move to size 4 teats?
