Part 3!

Quick recap - DS, 17 weeks, EBF (stubborn little bottle refuser), crap sleeper! Super knackered Mummy, surviving on 1-2 hour sleeps :(

So I am hoping for a better night tonight seeing as bedtime went smoothly. Last night was hideous and I've eaten a twirl, a bounty and a salted caramel brownie today just to get through the day!

DS went back to sleep at 05.00am but was up again at 06.20 and then again at 07.45. I obviously had very minimal sleep between those awakenings.

I gave him some Calpol at about 9pm but he still screamed for another 2 hours. It never has any effect on him.

He's regressed to being 6 weeks old again Sad

PollyP0429 · 17/07/2014 13:17

Batmam no other DCs, and never again I think >_<

Writer you must be gutted, remind me how old DS is again?

It sounds like all the babies are teething now, if it's not one thing keeping them awake its another...

Writerwannabe83 · 17/07/2014 13:36

I'm more tired than gutted Grin

He is 16 weeks so I think he's having the usual sleep regression with hot nights, teething and immunisation issues all thrown in.

PollyP0429 · 17/07/2014 13:42

Bad time for 4 month regression :( he sleeps well in the day though doesn't he? Can you sleep then?

Writerwannabe83 · 17/07/2014 13:47

He has stopped sleeping in the day too. If he does drop off it's for about 30 minutes max and then he wakes up crying. I take him on super long walks in the hope he will fall asleep but he doesn't and all it does is make me feel more exhausted than I already am.

I don't think his lack of sleep in the day helps when it comes to bedtime, he is so overtired that he doesn't know what to do with himself.

I'm back to dreading bedtime again.

I've just had another good read through of the last 3 pages or so and there are so many of us having a tough time at the moment, it's soul destroying really.

katetheshtew - your night sounds horrendous!! If you got a GP appointment I hope everything is ok. Mind you, sometimes you'd prefer a reason for the screaming as at least then it can be dealt with I suppose.

KateTheShrew · 17/07/2014 14:35

Thanks for the sympathy everyone.

Just back from GP where he was all smiles and made me feel like a complete fraud Hmm

He has no ear infection, no fever, no nothing. Got some steroid cream for his eczema in case that's what was bothering him, but I really don't think it was. Please let tonight be better!!

Plus because he was comfort feeding all night I think my supply has increased. Feel bit Dolly Parton-esque today...

mrsmugoo · 17/07/2014 14:57

Writer - mine has only ever done 30-40 minute catnaps!

OP posts:
Writerwannabe83 · 17/07/2014 15:05

I miss his 3 hour naps.....that's when I would catch up on all my Sky+ programmes Grin

Wherehasmysleepgone · 17/07/2014 16:24

Hi all, well I had DS1 weighed and he is 17lb 10oz and the HV said I need to try and reduce his feeds as he has jumped up the chart, he was 75th and now 91st (I thought he was in the 90s so I wasn't worried but then she said no he was lower) and she said if he carries on this way we would need to think about going to a paediatrician!? Confused She said she feels the night bottles are habit and I need to break it. She mentioned weaning but not until 17 weeks and also giving him as much water as he will take providing its not replacing the feeds he needs!
So I can see a few horrible nights coming up.
I have increased his bottle to 7oz and hope to reduce the amount he has a day to 5 which would be 35oz and top up with water!
Just want to say my DS1 isn't fat at all, he doesn't look overweight! Smile

He has been a nightmare this arvo too, I don't know if its the heat - he has had max of 1.5 hrs sleep and is so miserable, crying everytime I put him down - had to resort to putting him in buggy for him to sleep!

PollyP0429 · 17/07/2014 16:46

Aww writer thats awful! DD saving grace is that she finally takes a fair chunk of naps in the day now. Usually up to an hour and a half.

Kate same thing happened when we took DD to OOH and then hospital, they diagnosed silent reflux, gave me landoprosole and a different baby to boot. All because there "didn't appear to be anything wrong"

Hope everyones days have been a bit better and heat hasnt produced a load of puddles. I feel like a giant drip with all the sweat.

Writerwannabe83 · 17/07/2014 18:16

Oh dear wherehas you have my sympathy as it will no doubt be a difficult habit to break. Maybe try and reduce his intake by one bottle a day, do it as a slow transition as opposed to suddenly cutting them all out. It might be easier on you both Smile

Have you got to back and get him re-weighed?

Cannotbelieveit · 17/07/2014 18:33

Wherehas, I had the same with DS1, he was born on 26th centile and gradually crept and up and has settled on 97th! They used to tell me I was giving him too much and he only had 4x 8oz!! As long as the weight and height centiles are in proportion I wouldn't worry x

mrsmugoo · 17/07/2014 20:53

I took DS to be weighed today and he's now 15lb! He's tracking between the 25th & 50th lines. The HV said we can start talking about weaning next time I go in 4 weeks - so exciting!

He's just gone down for the night - later than usual we were out having a barbecue with family.

OP posts:
Writerwannabe83 · 17/07/2014 21:21

Well he's been screaming for well over an hour now.
I just don't get it. Why is he contented and quiet during the day but come bedtime he just screams and screams!

He's had Calpol out of desperation but it's so pointless.

puggywug81 · 17/07/2014 22:04

Aww writer hope things improve soon for you.

PollyP0429 · 17/07/2014 22:40

Really unsettled so far, evrn in just a nappy I think this heat is too much for her

Cannotbelieveit · 17/07/2014 22:54

Worked out the cause of yesterday's meltdown, I forgot to give infacol before all his feeds Shock it obviously does work for him. Had his last feed and was asleep at 10. Hoping for a good night with both boys! Both just in vests and we have an industrial size fN on and all windows open

Writerwannabe83 · 17/07/2014 23:29

Another 1.5 hours later and he's still crying.

He's absolutely fine the minute I pick him up, falls asleep on me wakes up when I put him down and cries again.

I'm going crazy!!

3.5 hours of it now!

Writerwannabe83 · 17/07/2014 23:31

I've had to just walk away from him and leave him with DH. I'm now 2 floors below him and I can still hear him.

I've had 8 hours sleep in 2 days and I just can't listen to him anymore.

Batmam · 18/07/2014 00:14

Good luck tonight everyone, especially Kate and Writer.

Writer put some ear plugs in so you can't hear him, you'll feel much better in the morning after a good chunk of sleep. I hope you get it x

Cannotbelieveit · 18/07/2014 02:13

DS1 at it again!! Been wide awake since 1am and he's fine when I go in but whining and standing up in cot as soon as I leave him. I'm so pissed off with him Angry

Cannotbelieveit · 18/07/2014 03:26

Ds1 finally drifting back off after bloody thunderstorm and now Ds2 up!!! Waaaah Sad

mrsmugoo · 18/07/2014 04:00

Up feeding and hallelujah I've slept continuously since 10:30 to now!

OP posts:
Writerwannabe83 · 18/07/2014 06:16

He finally fell asleep at just gone midnight - 4 hours after I took him up to bed.

He's awake and feeding now but I'm just very grateful he's woken up at a normalish time as opposed to middle of the night!

I hope things are ok cannot - there was a manic thunderstorm where I live too, it woke me up but thankfully not DS. I hope you have been able to get some sleep.

mrsmugoo · 18/07/2014 07:55

He didn't really settle in his cot after his 4am feed so I lifted him out and in with me and we both slept til 7:30

Sorry to hear about all the bad nights :( chocolate cake and coffee for you today!
