DS gone off right boob!

DS is 8 weeks old and this week has been really hard to feed from my right boob. He fusses at it and won't latch and gets really upset. I've tried him in the rugby hold position facing the other way and this sometimes works, but often doesn't.

Why would he be doing this and what can I do to help him feed from that side again?

Hi, my little guy does the same occasionally. Has it lasted a whole week? I found it happens when he has a cold / blocked nose / sore ears so was uncomfortable feeding on one side. He always came back to that boob eventually though. Sometimes I think it also happened if the milk flow was going crazy on one side and was a bit much for him, if that could be the case maybe express a bit off and then try. If none of that sounds plausible...I think they sometimes just like to put their little feet down, shows character, so I'd just keep offering that boob and I'm sure he'll take it again soon!

Hmmm that's an interesting thought. He had his jabs last Thursday and I think it's been happening roughly since then, but it has been getting worse rather than better and you'd think if he was sore from that it would be getting better not worse.

No not really! He's still not feeding normally on that side. Sometimes I can get him to take it by tucking him under my arm, but I have to really contort myself and it's awkward and not possible when we're out and about. He's feeding ok from the other side, but is generally a bit more fussy about feeding. Don't know what's going on, but hope he doesn't stay like this. I think there's some bf support at my local NCT, which I'll go along to on Thursday.

i had breast refusal early Saturday morning> next feed i extracted and used bottle and baby accepted this. after 8 hours of further breast refusal we had 7 week old checked by A&E, and all was well health wise. Whilst at hospital i had an idea - I extracted 10ml and gave this promptly follwed by breast - baby latched on. Baby fed twice more during the night as usual on breast then during the day i needed to prompt her by using the extractor, but only 10ml each time, just to initiate the breast feeding. By yesterday, Monday, she was back to breast feeding. We think she was put off by hormone changes due to period returning. I hasten to add i dont drink any caffeine or alcohol or smoke.i use homeopathic remedies. try a process of ellimination. tired of Kent, over-and-out!

I'm really worried about it now actually as he hasn't fed on that side since yesterday afternoon, but I don't feel very full and just tried expressing and hardly got anything out. Worries it's affecting my supply

please don't give up, you are doing the right things. i also worried about supply early on, just kept up the extracting. I am drinking lots of chamomile and fennel teas (which we think has a positive effect - we daren't miss a day), plenty of water. keep up your fluids and rest as much as you can - you also need to recover and rebalance too.

Thanks for help and support. I saw a bf councillor today and she gave me some good things to try re positioning, but I'm not sure it's really going to change things. My supply has really dipped on that side and there's a noticeable difference in the size of my boobs. Think he will probably end up just feeding from the one side. He's well and gaining weight so I guess it's all ok, but he's just a lot fussier with his feeds now, on both sides, which is a real pain.
