I had my little boy four and half weeks ago, I wanted to breastfeed from the start but I couldn't position him right to get his latch right even with help. For the first few days he was formula feed then he had expressed milk and formula now he's only on expressed milk. He is feeding every 3 hours sometimes less and he's having nearly 6oz every feed sometimes 7, I did ask the midwife after I first had him if I could over feed they said not but when I look at other threads and online everyone else seems only to be having 3oz. Any info would be great thanks :)

Aylish, you have had a hard start to feeding :(

This does not sound hugely excessive though. What does your Hv say? Generally, babies should be fed in response to their apparent needs, and if this is what you are doing, then all should be well. Babies of four weeks are still very new, and love to feed and suck and to be close to you. Deliberately reducing the amount he has would not normally be advised, no matter how the baby is fed.

Hes' on expressed breast milk? Well done you!

Step away from google and comparisons with other babies. If it were boob to baby feeding rather than boob to bottle to baby you'd just feed him and be happy he seemed to have lots of wet nappies and was bright.

There is no way of knowing the volume consumed by a baby fed direct from the breast so who knows what they get!

Feed him what he wants when he's hungry ( or thirsty) and enjoy him

The last time I saw anybody he was on both formula and breast milk so I haven't really had much advise on it. Thanks for the advise :)
