Have 1 sore nipple which I know is an attachment problem as she doesn't open mouth wide enough on 1 side only. Midwife gave me a sample of Lansinoh lanolin which is brilliant it is also over £10 to buy has anybody tried and liked a cheaper alternative?

Hi I don't breastfeeding so don't know how helpful I'll be. Didn't I hear someone say cabbage leaves for sore breasts? I'm not sure if it would work with nipple though.

Didn't try an alternative but one tube lasted me from birth till DS self weaned at 16 months ish. So I thought it was alright value for money.

I've BF for 2.5 years so far and had 3 tubes. That's quite a lot though, most folk would have less. I think it's good value as it goes a long way even if you apply after every feed.

Check out amazon, it's regularly £6-7 on there. 1 tube lasted me through bfing dd to 20 months and so far ds to 7 months

Or get your midwife to prescribe you jelonet ointment patches which will be free while you are on maternity leave!

I've tried a variety and I unfortunately have to say that lansinoh is the only really decent option. But it lasts the whole time. And you can use it as lip balm after that so it's pretty good value considering it lasts that long.

Brilliant thank you all off to buy some now

I always used vasaline as allergic to lanolin. V heap and works well.

mangofizz · 03/07/2014 22:23

Its on offer in mothercare for 6.66 I think

fruitpastille · 03/07/2014 22:31

You can get lansinoh free on prescription from your gp or maybe midwife. My practice nurse sorted it for me while i was there for dds vaccinations!

fruitpastille · 03/07/2014 22:32

It's also reduced in my local waitrose at the mo.

Midori1999 · 03/07/2014 23:18

Vaseline is a cheaper alternative, but you do need to wipe it off before feeds. Xx

bayrans · 03/07/2014 23:22

Kamillosan - lovely stuff. Can be used for nappy rash too. You do have to wipe it off for a feed, I forgot a few times and my daughter is none the worse off for it.
